The World Bank funded project involved the upgrade and rehabilitation of 805km of state highways to two lane standard and construction of four major bypasses. The works were implemented under four International Competitive Bidding (ICB) contract packages (covering 490km of highway upgrade) and eight National Competitive Bidding (NCB) contract packages (covering 280km of highway upgrade and rehabilitation and construction of 35km bypasses) in six districts: Belgaum, Bellary, Bijapur, Chitradurga, Dharward and Shimoga in the southwest state of India, Karnataka. SMEC’s services included: construction supervision, quality assurance and control and contract administration and management.
