The Assam State Electricity Board carried out transmission and distribution network system expansions and upgrades in the northeast state of India, Assam. These enhancements were part of the Assam Power Sector Enhancement Investment Program which was funded by the Asian Development Bank. The objectives of the project were to: facilitate increased power transfers to accommodate increased demand; strengthen power transmission capacity; improve access to electricity; enhance quality of power supply; reduce the intensity of green house gas and other emissions by improving efficiency; and ensure the financial health of the power sector through continued reform. SMEC's services included: project implementation consultancy services, construction supervision and provision of on-the-job training for client staff.
