The objective of the Melamchi Water Supply Project was to augment the water supply to Kathmandu by the transfer of water sourced from the Melamchi River. SMEC provided a senior engineer (Principal Consultant) to undertake a technical review of the design process on behalf of the Asian Development Bank and to provide advice and assistance to the executing agency, the Melamchi Water Supply Development Board. SMEC’s services included: review of consultants’ reports and progress, review of engineering designs and environmental and sociological mitigation proposals, review of the viability of the hydropower station, and preparation of a single project document for all donors.
