The Government of Sri Lanka implemented the national water management improvement project to improve the development and management of water resources, reduce public risks of water induced hazards, and enhance effectiveness of water related investments. There were a number of components involved: dam safety and operational efficiency, upgrading and modernising hydro-meteorological information systems, technical assistance and pilot interventions for integrated water resources planning and management, institutional development and capacity building. SMEC provided all consulting activities including: preparation of a project design and Action Plan, dam safety assurance, improvement of operational efficiency of dams, institutional development and capacity building, preparation of design and tender documents and establishment of a hydro-meteorological network comprising 35 upgraded meteorological stations.
