Ukhaa Khudag-Gashuun Sukhait Railway
Back to Previous
SMEC is responsible for the design and construction supervision of a 230km railway from the coal mine at Ukhaa Khudag to a transfer station at Gashuun Sukhait, near the Mongolian-Chinese border. The railway was designed as a single line railway, with the capacity to transport 28 million tonnes of coal from Ukhaa Khudag to Gashuun Sukhait. A coal loading loop, marshalling yard and maintenance depot will be constructed at Ukhaa Khudag, and a marshalling yard will be constructed at Gashuun Sukhait. The railway design incorporated future expansion plans; a double railway line may be required to handle increased output from additional mines when they are established along the rail corridor.
