The project involved design, construction and maintenance over a ten year period for approximately 7km of dual carriageway upgrade of the Pacific Highway between Brunswick Heads and Yelgun in addition to a 2km duplication of the existing Brunswick Heads Bypass. The project alignment included cuttings to 30m depth and embankments reaching up to 12m. SMEC's services included: earthworks geotechnical design including assessment of batter stability and foundation treatments including soft soil areas; pile design and load testing; ground investigation and instrumentation; monitoring for earthworks; and geotechnical and structural design of 13 bridges, 25 retaining walls and approx 50 culverts.
