SMEC managed a broad range of sustainable development projects in Papua New Guinea on behlaf of PNG Sustainable Energy Ltd including: Teachers' Houses Solar Power project (installing solar panels on teacher's houses in Western Province); Bougainville mini-hydro projects (two village level supply and distribution projects); Pongema mini-hydropower project, an 8MW diesel displacement project for PJV and village electrification; Sepik Electrification, three 10MW mini-hydropower and distribution schemes, developed progressively to supply power along the northern coast; Village biodiesel plant, a pilot plant and subsequent development of transportable oil extraction and biodiesel production units for sites across PNG. SMEC also undertook a nation-wide biomass resource study to identify potential energy sources.
