Preliminary Flood Mitigation Study for Charleville
Back to Previous
Country:
Australia
Client:
Murweh Shire Council
Sector:
Water
SMEC undertook a peer review of a flood mitigation study (commissioned by Murweh Shire Council, southern Queensland) in response to floods that occurred in Charleville in March 2010. Predicted flood levels were greatly exceeded during the floods and the study was commissioned to identify flood mitigation options to protect Charleville from future flooding emanating from Warrego River and Bradley’s Gully Creek. SMEC used data from several telemetry, pluviometer and daily rainfall gauges to calibrate hydrologic models and completed a comprehensive hydraulic assessment of flood mitigation options using the two dimensional modelling package TUFLOW. The model was used to predict the flow behaviour of Warrego River and Bradley’s Gully Creek.
