Bayan Airag Gold Mine Project, Mongolia

The Bayan Airag Gold Mine Project is a proposed open-cut gold mine in north-west Mongolia. SMEC is preparing Water and Environmental and Social Impact Assessments and associated management plans that meet both Mongolian regulatory requirements and international Equator Principles, to enable operation of the open-cut mine. SMEC is also undertaking hydrogeological investigations to assess the capacity of local Water and Water and Environment supply to the proposed mine including: drilling and piezometer installation; aquifer assessment; Water and Water and Environment level monitoring; groundWater and Water and Environment modelling; and pipeline design. The proposed mine is located in a sparsely populated, remote arid area. The mine will make a significant contribution to regional and national development and contribute to poverty reduction.
