The objective of the project was to strengthen the institutional capacity of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Development (MID) in the Solomon Islands to effectively plan and manage infrastructure development in the Solomon Islands in a sustainable manner. SMEC’s services included: addressing the constraints faced by the Government in land, sea and air transport; capacity building of the newly created Transport Policy and Planning Unit; preparation of a National Transport Plan; establishment of the National Transport Fund; and establishment of Partner Agency Training Arrangements in the areas of strategic planning and policy development, regulation of transport services, asset management, project management, financial management and procurement of goods and services.
