SMEC is part of a consortium that has just been awarded the Northern Vietnam Road Traffic Safety Improvement Project. The project has four major components. SMEC will be involved in the first component, Traffic Safety Facilities Development.
SMEC’s services will include upgrading major intersections, improvement of minor cross road intersections, construction of safety measures for pedestrian and bicycle crossings, widening of motorcycle and bicycle lanes, central median installation, bus-bay installation and widening for paved shoulders.
The Northern Vietnam Road Traffic Safety Improvement Project has been initiated to combat the growing number of fatalities from road traffic accidents in Northern Vietnam. Road traffic fatalities increased 4.6 times between 1992 and 2002, from 2,755 to 12,800 persons.
