The iconic Sydney Metro Cable-Stayed bridge project - the first curved, cable-stayed railway bridge in Australia - was once again a winner, this time at the 2018 Consulting Engineers South Africa (CESA) Aon Engineering Excellence Awards, held on 15 August in Johannesburg, South Africa.
This is the fourth award for the project which has been the recipient of the ENR Global Best Project award and the Sydney Engineering Excellence Award, placing the project in the finals for the 2018 Australian Engineering Excellence Awards
It is the second win for the project in South Africa; the first being Best International Project at the South African Institution of Civil Engineering (SAICE) Western Cape Regional Awards in May 2018.
“We had a 15-member team come together from across Australia and South Africa who worked to deliver the project over a four-year period”, said Ray Murphy, Manager Rail NSW/ACT. “SMEC’s combined strength in bridge structures was a critical factor in the contractors winning the tender design.”
