Raising Funds at Vinnies Sleepout
Members of SMEC’s ANZ leadership team took part in the 2017 Vinnies CEO Sleepout in Melbourne, raising over $6,500 for people experiencing homelessness.
SMEC is committed to making a difference in the communities that we work and this outlook encourages the involvement of our dedicated employees who through their monetary donations, or by way of their time and skills give back to those in less fortunate circumstances.
As part of the 2017 Vinnies CEO Sleepout, Thomas Hynes and Tim Chapman from SMEC’s ANZ leadership team took part in the 2017 Vinnies CEO Sleepout in Melbourne, raising over $6,500 for people experiencing homelessness and living below the poverty line across the country. The no-frills night out included sleeping rough on a piece of cardboard for one night at The University of Melbourne. Participants were served soup from the Vinnies Soup Van and heard real life experiences from Vinnies volunteers and people they have assisted. “Having an opportunity to be involved with Vinnies and help contribute to supporting a vital need in our city is an absolute honour” said Mr Hynes.
The Vinnies CEO Sleepout provides an opportunity for business and community leaders to show leadership in the area of homelessness through fundraising and awareness. Since its inception the event has raised $30 million, with every dollar raised helping to provide crucial assistance to people experiencing homelessness, with the aim of breaking the cycle of homelessness.
Donations from the Vinnies CEO Sleepout have already directly assisted people experiencing homelessness by funding new projects, assisting with the provision of existing homeless services and allowing program expansions.
We are proud to have been part of this event and look forward to raising even more funds next year.
