SMEC has been engaged by the South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL) to upgrade the 43 km Zandkraal to Winburg section of the N1 Freeway.
SMEC has been awarded a contract with the South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL) for the provision of design services on the N1 Zandkraal to Winburg freeway upgrade in Free State, South Africa. The objective of the project is to address current capacity constraints on the N1 in order to accommodate growing traffic demands.
Project works comprise the upgrading of a 43 km section of the N1 (between Zandkraal Toll Plaza and Winburg) from a single to a dual carriageway, the addition of two new interchanges, and construction of additional lanes at the Zandkraal Toll Plaza.
SMEC’s services include: preliminary and detailed design; tender documentation; construction supervision; material source investigations; environmental approvals; and traffic studies.
