The Bridgton Sports Pavilion forms part of the Oudtshoorn Municipality’s long-term strategic plan to make Oudtshoorn the centre of a sporting mecca for the Southern Cape.
The pavilion seats 1,000 spectators and houses the changing rooms, referee facilities and meeting rooms below the grandstand.
This sports pavilion was constructed overlooking the existing dual purpose rugby and cricket sports fields.
The in-situ concrete construction was chosen to maximise the utilisation of local skills and labour for the project. The roof structure comprises a cantilever triangular tapering tubular truss system that cantilevers off the concrete frame. This system was chosen because of the self-stabilising triangular shape of the trusses.
The completion of this project has delivered a unique yet functional sports pavilion in the previously disadvantaged community of Bridgton in the Western Cape.
