Sydney, 7 June 2023: Fortescue Future Industries (FFI) and global engineering firm, SMEC are proud to announce the establishment of an Engineering Partnership Agreement between the two companies. This agreement will enable SMEC to provide engineering services to support FFI in their goal to harness the world’s renewable energy resources to produce green electricity, green hydrogen, green ammonia, and other green industrial products.

“FFI sees great opportunities in leveraging the global breadth and depth of capability of some of the world’s industry leading engineering houses to support and develop our front-end engineering studies,” FFI CEO Mark Hutchinson said.

“By working with partners like SMEC, we can combine each other’s strengths to achieve the best outcome.”

“Partnerships such as this will be critical in ensuring FFI can achieve the global scale and have the depth of impact needed to lead the world’s effort to decarbonise.”

SMEC, a member of the Surbana Jurong Group, has a strong heritage in delivering renewable energy projects, beginning with its origin project and namesake, the Snowy Mountain Hydroelectric Scheme.

“Globally, we are at cross-roads in our quest to transition our energy sources to renewables. Bringing together the technical expertise of SMEC’s global workforce and FFI’s mission as a global green energy company; together we have a shared vision for a more sustainable future,” said Hari Poologasundram, CEO SMEC & CEO International, Surbana Jurong Group.

“With our team of international specialists in renewable energy infrastructure, but also technical advisory services we look forward to working collaboratively with FFI’s team as they develop green energy projects globally.”

The agreement will enable SMEC to support the delivery of FFI’s projects and to deliver long-term value across their global portfolio.

FFI and SMEC are proud of their role in helping solve the global energy supply and infrastructure challenges and create communities which thrive.
