SMEC assists in the installation of a telecommunication cable connecting Asia, Europe, Africa and the Middle East, providing unprecedented internet access.
SMEC has been engaged by Optic Marine Services to provide Independent Environmental Checker (IEC) services for the installation of the Asia Africa Europe-1 (AAE-1) Cable Project, a submarine telecommunication cable project based in Hong Kong.
The AAE-1 is a 25,000 km cable which will connect South East Asia to Europe across Northern Africa and the Middle East, providing unprecedented broadband access across the regions. The new system will also serve as an alternative to the existing heavily congested subsea cables that currently connect the various countries along the route.
SMEC has previously obtained the Environmental Permit for the project and is currently working on the gazettal for the burial of over 27 km of cable in Hong Kong waters.
