SMEC’s first project in Papua New Guinea was in 1975 when it conducted a National Construction Resources Study for the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation. Since then, SMEC has undertaken many other projects. In 1996, SMEC acquired the local company Engineering Geology (PNG) Pty Ltd and three years later changed its trading name to SMEC PNG Ltd.
