SMEC has operated in Kuwait since 2002. SMEC's first project in Kuwait was the Kuwait Environmental Groundwater Project. This project aimed to accurately assess damage to groundwater resources in Kuwait due to oil spills, leakages and hydrocarbon migration into the hydrogeological systems. SMEC opened a permanent office in Kuwait in 2002.
Since then, SMEC has undertaken studies and preliminary designs for stormwater drainage systems, managed various motorway maintenance projects, designed and implemented pavement management system training for Kuwaiti Airport staff and provided Environmental Impact Assessments for proposed building developments.
With experience in the Transport, Water, Environment and Government and Advisory Services sectors in Kuwait, SMEC has recently been involved in the Road Administration Engineering Consultancy Services project. The Kuwait Ministry of Public Works is responsible for the improvement of the road network in Kuwait. Government spending on the network has significantly increased in recent years and resources are now overstretched. The consultancy aims to improve the Ministry’s capacity.
