SMEC has operated in Nepal since 1968. SMEC's first project in Nepal was the 300MW Karnali Hydropower Project. SMEC provided project planning services and undertook feasibility studies for the project.
Since then, SMEC has completed feasibility studies and Environmental Impact Assessments for highways and hydropower projects, provided consultancy services for road improvement and rehabilitation projects, conducted a study on the Gandaki River Basin and implemented a water resources and energy training program on behalf of the Government of Nepal.
With experience in the Transport, Water and Environment sectors in Nepal, SMEC recently provided construction supervision services for the Road Maintenance and Development Project. The project objectives were to extend and upgrade over 440km of strategic road networks in Nepal, to address environmental, social and resettlement activities and to implement staff training.
