Coastal

Climate change impacts are being felt worldwide. Higher sea levels, more frequent cyclones and coastal flooding are becoming more prevalent in today’s society. The importance of coastal engineering in adapting to these impacts has never been greater. Understanding coastal processes and using broad-based engineering skills to design coastal infrastructure to withstand these forces is key to adapting to the predicted changes.

SMEC has been involved in numerous coastal engineering projects worldwide and has broad-based capabilities in coastal engineering. SMEC has expertise in significant coastal engineering projects, including: container, multi-purpose, inland port facilities and services, design of coastal reconstruction works following natural disasters, coastal investigations and coastal zone management projects.

SMEC’s coastal scientists and engineers are highly experienced in the application of leading industry technologies related to coastal processes and structural design. SMEC can call upon expertise from disciplines within the Company to provide an integrated approach with meets the specific needs of each project.

SMEC’s services include: understanding of coastal and estuarine processes, marine infrastructure development, estuary processes analysis, hydrodynamic analysis, coastal zone management, analysis of climate change impacts, design and contract documentation, community consultation and environmental planning and engineering.
