Land Management

SMEC recognises that the protection of the environment, the safeguarding of ecosystems, the responsible use of natural resources and the implementation of land management systems are critically important to the world's future. As environmental and planning professionals, SMEC recognises the need to balance environmental and other considerations whilst also meeting the needs of the public, both now and in the future.

SMEC has a long history of involvement with major private clients, multi-lateral and bilateral agencies and corporations. A number of these organisations were leaders in introducing both the need for assessment of environmental issues for major projects, and also the implementation of the concept of sustainable development. To service these requirements, SMEC's capabilities range across the physical and biological sciences, policy, statutory and social planning, environmental engineering and related geotechnical, groundwater, contaminated sites and water resource engineering.

Services include: environmental assessments including land capability assessment; environmental management of land, air and water; environmental strategic advice; Environmental Impact Assessments; flora and fauna surveys; ecological assessment; water quality monitoring (ground, surface and drinking water); acid sulphate soils assessment; community consultation and stakeholder management; and investigations into indigenous and non-indigenous heritage.
