SMEC’s highly experienced staff have extensive, practical experience in all aspects of local government with a strong commitment to the principles of participation, accountability, transparency and working in partnerships with other entities on a regional, national and international scale.

SMEC’s services include strategic and financial planning, monitoring of legislation and regulations, establishing transparent and accountable administration, organisational development and promotion of strong civic leadership. SMEC also provides expertise in organisational structure and change management, with an emphasis on improving processes and transferring skills and technology. SMEC provides support to clients through continuous review of organisational processes and deployment of internal communication and engagement strategies.

SMEC’s capabilities in capacity building come from its ability to access practitioners with local government expertise. These capabilities have been utilised in numerous development aid and privately funded projects around the world. Sustainable and effective capacity building is achieved through organisational development programs and skills training in: organisational performance evaluation, needs analysis and program design, development of service delivery options, community engagement and participation programs and customer-focused initiatives.

In the area of corporate governance, SMEC’s services include reviewing corporate performance and conformance with legislative requirements, improving corporate governance structures and processes overseeing governance of government owned entities and inter-governmental relations.
