SMEC’s experience in aviation infrastructure development encompasses planning, design, construction and maintenance of airports and associated facilities. SMEC’s activities in the aviation sector have also included institutional strengthening, training, development of management systems and extensive procurement programs.

SMEC has been involved in a number of high-profile studies and projects related to the development of major urban international airports and has designed and managed the construction of pioneer regional airports in a number of developing countries. SMEC has also been involved in traffic and transport access planning for Australian airports.

SMEC has provided procurement services for airport communication and navigation equipment to countries in the Pacific through the Australian Aid funded Commodities Assistance Program. SMEC has had extensive involvement in development and implementation of maintenance systems, rehabilitation, maintenance and upgrading works for international and regional airports throughout the Asia Pacific region.

Services include: regional airport rehabilitation, airport maintenance, airport privatisation, due diligence studies, conceptual and preliminary design, procurement services and safety audits. SMEC has also been involved in a number of Design and Construct bids for airport upgrade projects and has worked closely with major construction contractors to provide innovative solutions, especially in pavement design and services layout.
