Bridges and Structures

SMEC has extensive experience in the investigation, concept planning, design, documentation, verification and proof engineering of all types of steel, composite, reinforced concrete pre-stressed concrete bridges and cable stayed bridges plus all associated retaining walls and other structures for transport projects. SMEC can also asses existing bridges, review structural design life, and design and manage bridge rehabilitation programs.

SMEC is at the forefront of the use of computer-aided techniques for all facets of bridge design. SMEC maintains an impressive software library of programs, either available commercially or developed by SMEC to analyse large and complicated structural systems. SMEC staff base their bridge designs on client requirements, local conditions and material availability.

SMEC has experience in the following types of bridges: balanced cantilever segmental bridges, steel box girder bridges, railway under-and-over bridges, major concrete arch bridges, conventional girder bridges, cable stayed bridges and  precast and in-situ segmental bridges. SMEC has experience in the following types of structures: large culverts and pipes, retaining walls, foundations including piling, reinforced earth walls, tunnels and transport service buildings.
