Rail Infrastructure

SMEC has more than 30 years experience in railway engineering consultancy services, including: high capacity suburban railways, heavy haul railways, freight railway systems and low-density provincial railways. SMEC has undertaken a range of projects from the design of new routes for urban, main line and provincial railway networks to the rehabilitation and maintenance of existing routes. SMEC continually explores the practical application of advanced technologies to provide innovative, cost-effective and appropriate solutions. SMEC also has significant experience in the delivery of large infrastructure projects using Design and Construct, Private Public Partnerships or Alliance delivery models.

SMEC understands that investment in rail infrastructure is significant for any rail network (either privately or publicly owned) and that good planning and design are critical to the delivery of rail projects. For existing networks SMEC also recognises that the maintenance of that rail infrastructure is critical and requires effective management. SMEC ensures that good planning and project management systems are utilised on all rail projects.

Services include: planning and investigation, survey and design, route selection and analysis, network design, construction supervision, operation and maintenance. These services can be provided for perway alignments, rail embankments, cutting slope stability and geotechnical designs, bridges and tunnels, culverts and trackside drainage, rail stations and supporting infrastructure.
