The services provided by SMEC South Africa included project management, system optimisation, civil design, tender document preparation, quality control, structural design, and site monitoring.
Steyn City and the Diepsloot township area north of Johannesburg are both rapidly expanding development nodes requiring additional municipal services.
Johannesburg Water (JW) identified a shortage of water supply to the area and appointed SMEC South Africa as the contracts managers and engineers on the construction project for a new 25ML reservoir.
The works consisted of the construction of a pre-stressed, circular plan, water proofed, concrete reservoir, making use of both in situ and pre-cast concrete elements. In addition, hydraulic assemblies in various diameters of 700mm ND and larger, including pipes, valves, bifurcations, meters and valve chambers were required, as well as a 400mm ND temporary bypass and buildings, fencing, landscaping, electric light and power, telemetry, cathodic protection and storm water drainage.
