SMEC will provide project management consultancy services for the development of a large industrial town in Jhajjar district.
Jhajjar is one of the 22 districts of Haryana state in India, west of New Delhi. On the industrial front, it is growing at a faster pace by providing good infrastructure to a wide range of industries, including manufacturing, export and distribution. Moreover, opening up of new avenues for industrial and economic activities in the district are also seen as potential areas for the service industry.
SMEC has been appointed by Model Economic Township Limited (METL) to provide project management consultancy services for the development of a large industrial town in Jhajjar district that spread over 8,200 acres. One of the townships is envisaged as a fully integrated industrial development with the support infrastructure of a logistics hub, rail and road connectivity, and social infrastructure including residential, commercial, recreational and institutional development.
The project aims to provide social infrastructure, attract investors, and expect to generate employment for about 20,000 people – all of which will create an ecosystem for walk to work culture. Sustainability aspect has been considered while designing infrastructure components including water, sewerage, drainage, roads, recycling of treated water, and optimising resources.
SMEC’s scope of work includes progress monitoring, supervision and quality control, and overall contract management services. The contract is initially for one year, extendable to three years.
METL is a wholly owned subsidiary of Reliance Industries and is engaged in industrial township development; Reliance Industries is a Fortune Global 500 company and the largest private sector company in India.
