Kallang / Paya Lebar Expressway

Our Role

SMEC provided design including geotechnical analysis for all temporary and permanent underground works.

The Land Transport Authority (owners of the project) proposed the use of cut-and-cover methods to construct the tunnel.

SMEC’s design included several cut-and-cover methods and extensive soil improvement techniques to enhance the stability and strength of the predominantly soft materials on-site.

Project Overview

The 12 km Kallang/Paya Lebar Expressway runs from the East Coast Parkway (ECP) in Singapore’s south to the Tampines Expressway and includes 8.5 km of tunnels.

This project comprises the first 1.5 km of the Expressway which included dual three lane carriageways from the ECP to Nicoll Highway. This section was enclosed in a tunnel and included a crossing over the Geylang River.
