Natural Gas Efficiency Project


Our Role

SMEC, in association with ILF Germany, has been appointed by the Bangladesh Gas Fields Co. Ltd. (BGFCL) as Engineering Consultant on the Natural Gas Efficiency project.

SMEC is responsible for the overall management of the project including basic and detailed engineering, procurement, installation, commissioning and testing of gas compressor units and associated facilities. This includes the installation of reciprocating gas-driven engine compressors in accordance with American Petroleum Institute (API) standards.

SMEC’s scope of work includes:

  • Basic and detailed engineering
  • Selection of Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning (EPCC) bidders through a prequalification process
  • Initiation of EPCC proposals
  • Detailed design review
  • Project management
  • Construction supervision
  • Commissioning

Project Overview

Due to the decline of gas field production levels, Bangladesh Gas Fields Co. Ltd. (BGFCL) are installing compressors at the Titas Location C and Narsingdi Gas Fields to maintain the required pressure in the process plants and the transmission pipeline.

Funded by the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA), this project comprises basic and detailed engineering, procurement, installation, commissioning and testing of gas compressor units and associated facilities. This includes the installation of reciprocating gas-driven engine compressors in accordance with American Petroleum Institute (API) standards
