Oceanside Infrastructure Upgrade

Our Role

SMEC provided consultancy services for the design and construction management of several infrastructure upgrade packages, including concept, preliminary, detail design, contract administration and construction surveillance for the upgrade of Kawana Way, Lake Kawana Boulevard and proposed future transit precinct.

Specific design elements involved roadworks, bridgeworks, signalised intersections, stormwater drainage, water quality, sewerage reticulation, water supply, bikeways and pathways, road furniture, pavement design and Authority Approvals.

SMEC managed the interface between multidiscipline consultants working on various elements and facilitated approvals with both the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads, Unitywater and Sunshine Coast Council.

Project Overview

The new Sunshine Coast Health Precinct will contain the University Public Hospital, Kawana Private Hospital, a mix of commercial and residential developments and a Multi-Modal Transport Corridor (MMTC).

The project involved the design and delivery of several infrastructure packages including:

  • Carriageway duplication and widening
  • Roundabouts and signalised intersections
  • Two bridges (three and five span)
  • Stormwater reticulation
  • Water quality treatment
  • Sewer rising mains
  • Water and sewer reticulation
  • Bulk earthworks

Design development and construction was influenced by high water table, poor soil conditions, large earthwork quantities including pre-load requirements, relocation of existing trunk Public Utility Plant (PUP) and consultation with the Queensland Department of Transport & Main Roads (TMR), Unitywater and the Sunshine Coast Council.

Design and construction management services were completed in line with budget and timeline constraints.
