SMEC has operated in Timor-Leste since 2000. SMEC's first project in East Timor was the Road Maintenance Support project for the United Nation Transitional Administration of East Timor. This was an emergency road rehabilitation program which encompassed all roads from the central mountainous region of Maubisse to the southern coastal region of Ainaro.
Since then, SMEC has provided construction supervision for bridge projects including the Carau-Ulun, Bemos and Dilor bridges, been involved in a road sector improvement project, carried out a feasibility study for irrigation rehabilitation and provided consulting services for the Iralalaru Hydropower Project. SMEC has experience in the Transport, Water, Environment, and Education, Governance and Government Advisory sectors in Timor-Leste.
SMEC aligns local knowledge with global expertise to address the needs of its diverse client base, and has delivered thousands of projects in more than 100 countries, including Timor-Leste.
We draw on the skills and experience from across the Surbana Jurong Group to offer enhanced capabilities and reach, delivering a complete value chain of services across Urban Development, Infrastructure and Management Services.
