Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace

The project timeframe was extremely tight for the concept, preliminary and detail design. The detailed design took approximately one year, and practical completion was achieved the day before the first game was played on March 28, 2009.

SMEC utilised a range of technologies in design and execution, with many firsts compared to other stadia. The composite steel and concrete structure won an award for technical excellence from the South African Institute for Steel Construction in 2009. Learn more

More Projects Zimbali Lakes Golf Estate

The first phase of the project consists of all bulk infrastructure required to service the full estate and also to include the Lifestyle Villages. The project scope includes the design of all bulk infrastructure (water, sewer, stormwater, roads, 5ML reservoir, an earth dam, sewer pump stations, pipe bridges and all bulk earthworks. The construction will be rolled out over the next five years. The current phase is expected to be completed in 16 months.

The viaducts are constructed using the Incremental Launch Method to accommodate traffic and elevation constraints. Learn more


SMEC was engaged to provide the planning, preliminary and detailed design of the bulk infrastructure for all bulk earthworks, road access, stormwater systems, sanitation, irrigation and water supply.
