In line with SMEC South Africa’s ongoing drive to engage with South Africa’s top engineering students, the region’s Gauteng South office welcomed 20 students from Vaal University of Technology (VUT) on 15 September for a site visit, aiming to bridge the gap between theory and practice in civil engineering.

The students engaged with SMEC experts, gaining valuable insights into the challenges, best practices, and project execution strategies in the field. Continuing this drive to nurture talent, on 22 September, Maja Wilson (Technical Principal, Structures) and Seymourne Samson (Business Partner, HR) participated in an event at Stellenbosch University’s Engineering Faculty. Organised by the SAICE Stellenbosch Student Chapter, the event focused on successful Internship/Vacation Training Programs for civil engineering students. Maja shared insights on SMEC South Africa and emphasised the importance of active participation during vacation training, helping students make the most of their learning experience.
