SMEC recently donated to support the recovery efforts in West Pasaman, West Sumatera, following a destructive earthquake on 25 February 2022.

The earthquake, with a magnitude of 6.2 SR, caused extensive damage in the Province of West Sumatera, particularly affecting the Regency of West Pasaman and villages like Kajai and Simpang Timbo Abu.

SMEC’s latest Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative focuses on collaborating with HSI Berbagi, a non-profit organisation specialising in disaster management, to address sanitation challenges and rebuild educational facilities. The official donation handover took place at the SMEC office in Jakarta, led by Imam Hudori (Acting Regional Manager Indonesia) and Febrianto (CSR Representative Indonesia) in a simple ceremony with HSI Berbagi officials.

The primary focus of the CSR project is to reconstruct sanitation and toilet facilities at Public Elementary School 26 of Talamau in Kajai, West Pasaman. The earthquake caused severe damage to the school’s infrastructure, impacting students and teachers. SMEC aims to restore normalcy to the school and contribute to the overall well-being of the community by constructing two sanitation and toilet facilities and providing essential learning tools in collaboration with HSI Berbagi.

This initiative is part of SMEC’s ongoing efforts, following its 2022 relief program, where sanitary packages and necessities were donated to earthquake-affected communities.

As SMEC and HSI Berbagi join hands in this collaborative effort, we aim to rebuild infrastructure and uplift the spirits of the affected community, fostering resilience and hope for a brighter future. Through this initiative, SMEC demonstrates that corporate responsibility extends beyond business, offering a helping hand to those in need and making a meaningful impact on the road to recovery.
