As we reflect on the year gone by, predictably, 2023 presented major challenges.

Climate change is increasingly affecting disadvantaged communities. Natural disasters such as drought, floods, and hurricanes are projected to worsen. Meanwhile, conflict in Ukraine and the Middle East adds extra volatility. The SMEC Foundation has supported a range of projects, guided by on-the-ground support and the professional expertise of SMEC staff. The dedication and local engagement within many of our regions sets the SMEC Foundation apart from other donor organisations. Your passion for making a difference has propelled us forward, enabling us to impact lives, uplift communities, and create positive change.

The support from SMEC alumni has been immensely valuable. Their generous donations have not only extended the number of projects but made possible numerous initiatives that, without their help, would have remained unrealised.

Our staff, alumni, and charity partners have successfully delivered a diverse and tightly focused 2023 program across many countries. Together, we have achieved remarkable milestones—whether it is supporting those in need or fostering a sense of belonging within our community. My thanks to everyone involved in making such tangible contributions across a broad range of communities where SMEC teams are working.

I was also delighted to learn that awareness of the SMEC Foundation has increased significantly throughout our organisation, thanks to the efforts of a committed SMEC marketing and communications team.

Looking ahead, the possibilities are boundless. Our commitment to serving with compassion, advocating for justice, and fostering positive change remains steadfast. I invite you to join us in anticipation of a new chapter—one filled with hope, resilience, and continued impact.

Wishing you and your loved ones a joyous holiday season and a New Year filled with purpose, fulfillment, and shared successes.
