SMEC is working with Malawi’s Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development on an Environmental & Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) of about 15 irrigation schemes around Malawi.
The objective of this ESIA is to identify and analyse the potential environmental and social implications of the proposed construction and operation of the irrigation schemes, design mitigation measures and provide detailed guidance on the implementation of these measures. Aligned to Malawi’s Environmental Impact Assessment guidelines, this ESIA will help to prevent, minimise and mitigate any adverse environmental and social impacts of these schemes, and enhance their economic and community benefits.
The irrigation projects under assessment, covering around 5,138ha, are now at feasibility and pre-feasibility stages. The project, lasting nine months, is a testament to SMEC’s strong track record with the agriculture and irrigation authorities in Malawi.
SMEC has been selected by Brisbane City Council to provide Project Verification (PV) Services for the Brisbane Metro project’s extensive infrastructure works, including the new tunnel underneath Adelaide Street.
