SMEC has been awarded the Project Verification role on the AUD 342 million Nowra Bridge project under a tripartite agreement with Transport for NSW and Fulton Hogan. Fulton Hogan is currently undertaking the design and construction of the new incrementally launched four-lane bridge over the Shoalhaven River. The project also includes upgraded intersections and additional lanes on the Princes Highway.
The Nowra Bridge project was identified as one of the ‘Priority Projects’ on the Infrastructure Australia 2020 Priority list. The Princes Highway is the main link between Sydney and southern New South Wales with over 51,000 vehicles using the existing crossings each day*. The project is vital to improve safety for all road users, reduce congestion and support future growth.
As the Project Verifier, SMEC is currently providing design verification services for the project. We will also provide construction verification services once major work commences in the second half of 2020 through to completion in 2024.
“Our team is looking forward to undertaking the Project Verification role to help see this vital project through to its completion,” said SMEC Director of Infrastructure, Trevor Sullivan. “SMEC has extensive experience on the Princes Highway and in verification of major infrastructure projects, which positions us well to contribute to the successful delivery of the Nowra Bridge project.”
