
SMEC consults on major water supply expansion project in Laos
SMEC Southeast Asia’s Water and Environment team has secured a milestone win with their first project in Laos to provide consultancy services for the Vientiane Capital Water Supply Expansion project.
SMEC Southeast Asia’s Water & Environment team has secured a milestone win with their first project in Laos to provide consultancy services for the Vientiane Capital Water Supply Expansion project.
Funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the project will see the expansion of the treatment capacity of the Chinaimo water treatment plant, one of the four main plants in Vientiane, from the current 80,000m3 per day to 120,000m3. Works will be in place to expand the water storage along the network, and to install and improve the water distribution pipelines.
Appointed by the Department of Public Works and Transport of Vientiane Capital, the team will work collaboratively with joint venture (JV) partner, Oriental Consultants Global, to review the current design and develop a new detailed design. The scope of work also includes tender preparation and construction supervision.
