SMEC will provide project implementation services on a major Irrigation and Drainage (I&D) systems rehabilitation and modernisation project in Kazakhstan.
SMEC has been engaged to provide project implementation services on a major Irrigation and Drainage (I&D) systems rehabilitation and modernisation project in Kazakhstan.
The objective of the project is to improve water supply to approximately 10,000 farms with a command area of 113,000 hectares. This will be achieved through: rehabilitation and modernisation of I&D systems; improved systems management, operations and maintenance; a more efficient use of irrigated lands; and increased participation of users in the development and management of I&D systems.
SMEC’s services are divided into four components: surveys, investigations, design, construction supervision and contracts management; institutional development, training and capacity building for improved water management and systems; agricultural development for improved and sustainable irrigated agriculture production and productivity; and project management and coordination support, including environmental management, project monitoring and evaluation.
SMEC has partnered with Deakin University, a member of the innovative Australian Technology Network of Universities, to undertake research and development to improve urban sustainability in Australia and abroad.
