SMEC Provides Verification Services on Kingsford Smith Drive Upgrade
This project will help to improve road safety and reduce traffic congestion along one of Brisbane’s busiest corridors.
SMEC has been appointed Independent Verifier by Brisbane City Council (BCC) for the design and construction of the A$650 million Kingsford Smith Drive Upgrade in Brisbane, Australia.
Kingsford Smith Drive is a major gateway linking the Brisbane Central Business District (CBD) to Brisbane Airport, the Port of Brisbane, Northshore Hamilton and the Australia TradeCoast area. The upgrade is expected to deliver significant transport, environmental and economic objectives for the riverside city.
Paul Fitzpatrick, BCC Principal Communications Officer, explains: “The Kingsford Smith Drive Upgrade will reduce traffic congestion along one of Brisbane’s busiest corridors, and will improve safety, local convenience and access for all road users (including cyclists, pedestrians and public transport commuters). It will also create an entry statement to Brisbane, transforming one of the city’s most significant routes into a vibrant urban corridor with the Brisbane River as the centrepiece.”
Project works commenced in January 2016 and are scheduled for completion in mid-2019. The Kingsford Smith Drive Upgrade continues SMEC’s legacy of providing quality independent verification services on signature BCC projects.
