SMEC was recently selected for inclusion on the Tasmanian Port Corporation (TasPorts) engineering advisory services panel for all disciplines. The appointment brings SMEC’s extensive experience in delivering complex infrastructure projects around Australia to assist TasPort in delivering strategic projects supporting their long-term growth.
As an island, approximately 99% of all freight imports and exports in Tasmania is via shipping and port infrastructure. This highlights the vital role TasPorts plays in the growth and economic prosperity of Australia’s most southern state.
Through the engineering advisory services panel, TasPorts will be able to utilise our experienced cross-disciplinary specialists to support its decisions relating to operations, future developments and potential business opportunities. “We are excited to commence work with TasPorts, supporting the anticipated growth in Tasmanian freight and implementation of the Port Master Plans,” stated Gary Bendell SMEC National Manager – Ports and Maritime.
In partnership with our sub-consultant, P&M Consultants Pty Ltd, SMEC will facilitate a strong team of professionals with technical experience to provide feasible, efficient and effective engineering advisory services.
SMEC’s Principal Consultant for Freight and Logistics, Christopher Ong outlines our role, “We were chosen to deliver long-term, sustainable outcomes for TasPorts and to bring excellent technical and project management skills, alongside robust understandings of state and local government processes. Our team has a strong commitment to engage with internal and external clients and possess local knowledge and a strong understanding of the key challenges in the Port, Logistics and Freight industry.”
Our experience extends to all aspects of port planning, design and civil works, including pavement, access roads, drainage, erosion control, fuel storage and handling facilities, water supply and wastewater treatment, HV and LV power distribution and general infrastructure. The panel appointment includes specialists across maritime & coastal engineering, asset management, civil engineering, water resources engineering, electrical engineering, environmental engineering, traffic engineering and geotechnical services.
