Dohazari to Cox's Bazar railway line is a proposed 120km dual-gauge passenger line in Bangladesh. SMEC, in a joint venture with CANARAIL and Systra, provided consultancy services including feasibility study, detailed design and tendering services.
The Dohazari to Cox’s Bazar railway project is expected to connect the national and sub-regional railway networks in Bangladesh for the first time. It is part of the Trans-Asian Railway (TAR) network and will improve access to Myanmar and beyond. The project is endorsed by the South Asia Sub regional Economic Cooperation (SASEC).
The proposed 120km dual-gauge passenger line runs from Chittagong’s Dohazari village to Xilongxa in Cox’s Bazar, one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country.
In a joint venture with CANARAIL of Canada and Systra of France, SMEC and its subsidiary ACE Consultants provided consultancy services for the Dhaka-Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar Rail Project Preparatory Facility in southeastern Bangladesh. Scope of services included undertaking a feasibility and safeguard study, detailed design and tendering services.
