Libby Paholski, SMEC Functional General Manager of Environment & Social Development Group - ASEAN, recently spoke at the 2022 International Development Opportunities Seminar. The seminar was organised by the Australian Government through the Australian Embassy in Manila and the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade).

Libby was invited as a Case Study Speaker at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in Brisbane where she presented SMEC’s international development capabilities and experience working with international financial institutions and other development partners. Whilst the focus of her talk was on SMEC’s experience with World Bank-financed projects, she also shared samples of best practices and offered practical advice on doing business in the international development space.

“It is a great honour for SMEC to once again be given the opportunity to share our track record of delivering projects across a range of sectors and countries in Asia-Pacific,” said Libby. “The seminar was a good opportunity to show SMEC’s commitment to working with clients and partners on projects that will improve the quality of life of communities, generate economic wealth and contribute to national development.”

Held over four days from 17 to 20 October 2022 and in three locations – Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane – the event gathered Australian contractors, suppliers, project developers, infrastructure development Australian businesses, consultants and education and research institutions with expertise, products, technology and solutions in all sectors covered by international development.

Also invited to speak were representatives from The World Bank, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) who provided insights on their funding priorities, project requirements and pipeline of partnership opportunities for organisations interested in doing international development work.
