SMEC is proud to announce that Kirryn Crossman has been awarded the Excellence in Transport Award at the 2025 Women in Industry Awards, held on 19 June.

First launched in 2014, the Women in Industry Awards celebrate the outstanding achievements of women across traditionally male-dominated sectors, including transport, mining, manufacturing, construction, engineering and more.

The Excellence in Transport Award  recognises individuals who go above and beyond to advance the transport sector, demonstrating leadership and a commitment to positive change. Kirryn’s recognition reflects her significant contributions to building smarter, more sustainable infrastructure, as well as her active support for developing the next generation of engineers.

With over 16 years of experience, Kirryn is the Manager – Roads & Highways, Gold Coast and has played a pivotal role in major infrastructure projects, including the Pacific Motorway (M1) Varsity Lakes to Tugun (VL2T) upgrade. Her work on this project contributed to Queensland’s first ‘Leading’ Infrastructure Sustainability (IS) Design Rating for a road project. She has consistently championed water-sensitive urban design, the use of recycled materials, and sustainable performance outcomes across the transport sector.

Beyond project delivery, Kirryn is an active contributor to the industry. She is a 2025 Roads Australia Fellow and serves on the Engineers Australia Gold Coast Chapter committee, where she promotes diversity and supports students and early career professionals. Known for her calm leadership style, she builds trust within multidisciplinary teams and enables successful outcomes in complex delivery environments.

At SMEC, people are at the heart of everything we do, because exceptional outcomes begin with exceptional people. This recognition is a celebration not only of Kirryn’s achievements, but also of the many female engineers driving positive change every day and shaping the future of our built environment.

Congratulations, Kirryn, on this well-deserved recognition and thank you for your leadership, dedication and continued contribution to a more diverse and inclusive transport future.
