Harpley is a major masterplanned community located approximately 35 kilometres south west of Melbourne’s CBD and 3 kilometres from the Werribee CBD, covering 435 hectares. Upon completion, Harpley will be home to 4,000+ homes and approximately 12,000 residents.
Redefining Melbourne’s city edge, Harpley offers a lifestyle by the water with high amenity and convenience. More than 100 hectares is dedicated to open space. This includes a unique network of interconnected lakes, waterways and wetlands, which is 60 hectares in size, as well as extensive public open space, 15 hectares of sports fields and 26 kilometres of hike and bike trails.
The future town centre will be situated adjacent to the waterfront in the heart of the community, providing a range of amenities and easy access for local residents. It will feature a supermarket, speciality stores, restaurants and cafes, a community centre with childcare, maternal and kindergarten facilities, and a 200-unit retirement village, and a potential aged care facility. A public primary school, an independent primary school and a public secondary school are also proposed.
SMEC is providing civil engineering, survey, PM2 electrical, and urban design services for the development of Harpley.
Working in partnership with Lendlease Communities, SMEC has addressed a number of engineering challenges on the project and continues to deliver to tight timeframes. These challenges include the delivery of key infrastructure items including the augmentation of major branch sewers, major trunk water and recycled water mains and 5 kilometres of arterial/sub-arterial roads including dual bridges.
The completion of the arterial road/bridges over the future Lollypop Creek and wetlands is one of the most significant infrastructure assets being delivered and also represents the culmination of 3 years of design, survey and construction efforts.
Water sensitive urban design is practiced throughout the estate. SMEC is implementing the overall stormwater management strategy to deliver a complex system of waterways, wetland treatment areas and open water, whilst also catering for the 1 in 100 year break out flood from the nearby Werribee River.
Our Urban Design team also provides annual yield assessment services, as well as management of building envelope plans and signage plans.
