SMEC has been awarded a contract by the Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited (UEGCL) for the provision of project management and construction supervision services.
SMEC will act as Project Management Consultant, and will assist UEGCL in overseeing the performance of various contractors, including the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) Contractor and Owner’s Engineer.
SMEC will provide technical and project management support, advice and guidance to UEGCL management and the project teams.
Located on the Nile River, the Isimba Hydropower Project is a 183 MW traditional reservoir-type hydropower development.
The objective of the project is to assist in reducing Uganda’s severe power shortages, and to accelerate the development of the local economy.
The Isimba Hydropower Project will comprise: a water retaining dam, a spillway, a powerhouse housing four 45 MW Kaplan turbine generator units, a 132 kV switchyward and auxiliary power transmission works.
