SMEC helped to increase power supply to expansions to Debswana’s Orapa operations, adding 40 MVA capacity at the 220 kV Orapa Substation.
Debswana Diamond Company is undertaking a number of new developments at its Botswana mines in the Orapa area, resulting in a need for additional power.
This project comprises the extension of the Orapa substation by one additional 220 kV bay.
This includes the design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of a new 40 MVA 220/33 kV power transformer, and a new reactive power compensation bank, connected to the main Debswana 33 kV switchboard.
As part of the substation expansion project the access road to the substation will also be upgraded.
