SMEC in Malaysia

SMEC’s first office in Malaysia was established in 1970 in Kuala Lumpur. In 1991, the Malaysia operations were incorporated as SMEC (Malaysia) Sdn Berhad to better serve the needs of an expanding number of clients in Malaysia and neighboring countries.

SMEC (Malaysia) Sdn Berhad is a locally registered engineering consultancy firm providing multidisciplinary consultancy services in hydro and thermal power generation, renewable energy, transmission and distribution, dam engineering, water resources, roads and transportation, regional development and infrastructure and water supply.

SMEC (Malaysia) Sdn Berhad became a wholly Malaysian owned company in May 2000. It is supported by local professionals, sub-professionals and administrative staff. For specialist skills and additional resources, the firm draws staff from SMEC International Pty Ltd, an international engineering and development consultancy that has successfully delivered more than 2,000 projects in more than 70 countries.

SMEC (Malaysia) Sdn Berhad, in partnership with SMEC International Pty Ltd, has delivered high-profile projects in Malaysia including:

  • feasibility studies, detailed design and construction management for the Ulu Jelai Hydroelectric Project;
  • study to formulate a railway master plan linking three areas for the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy; and
  • the feasibility study review, detailed design, and construction supervision for the Nenggiri Hydropower Project.
