SMEC in Tonga
SMEC has operated in Tonga since 1990. SMEC’s first project in Tonga was a national Infrastructure Development Program for the Ministry of Works. The project was commissioned by the Australian International Development Assistance Bureau. The aim of the program was to strengthen the capacity of the Ministry of Works to plan and implement construction and maintenance activities.
Since then, SMEC has been involved in numerous institutional strengthening projects including financial management, taxation and accounts training and techniques for senior managers, provided design and supervision services for the Neiafu urban roads upgrade project, the Tongatapu road project and the Vava’u roads improvement project and the Eua water supply improvement project.
SMEC has experience in the Transport, Water, Built Environment, and Education, Governance and Government Advisory sectors in Tonga.
